0)) Jamaica, like many Caribbean countries, has a rich poetic output, aviator ray ban sunglasses due in no small part to the oral traditions the slaves brought with them from Africa. This two part presentation begins with the work of Claude McKay (b.1889), the first English speaking Caribbean poet to achieve international recognition and also a leader of the Harlem Renaissance. Even at this early stage poets were experimenting with the use of the language of speech, patois. Over the last century the region has seen poetry move from essentially a colonial space where the poetic was defined in European terms to now, where poets like Linton Kwesi Johnson have redefined cultural identities to create a poetry that is distinctly Caribbean. The period has also seen the emergence of many strong female voices, such as the much loved Louise 'Miss Lou' ray bands Bennett, who entertained generations of Jamaican school children and influenced many of those ray ban us who are now well known poets themselves.
Nostalgia for island landscapes is a recurring theme, as is concern for the poor; and from the 1930s there was the political awakening that eventuated in Jamaica gaining independence in 1962. It is not surprising that the experience of migration features strongly, given that it is a fact of Caribbean life: there was the first migration, that of the human cargo brought against their will from Africa, then the migration away, glass ray ban sunglasses with the waves of economic migrants that flooded into the United Stated and the United Kingdom from the 1950s.
