5 questions that need answering Gillian Anderson as Detective Stella Gibson in The Fall (Picture: BBC) WARNING: If you haven watched the third episode of season 2 of The Fall, this blog post contains SPOILERS.
In last week instalment of The Fall, it looked like DSI Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) was about to get her man, serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan), but things didn turn out as planned in episode 3. While it makes for better drama that the police finally know the name of the person they dealing with after Spector fingerprints were found on a murder weapon (his anonymity had probably been stretched too far, what with that little thing police like to call evidence), this episode was a bit of a mixed bag. I like that Spector, now that he has been backed into a corner, turned the tables on Gibson, but does he have to get the increasingly implausible babysitter to help him do it? Let take a look at the major questions to spring up from this week episode. 1. What has happened to Rose Stagg? Rose Stagg has been abducted by Spector (Picture: BBC) At the end of episode 2, the screams of Rose (Valene Kane) were heard from the boot of her car, as Spector had taken the unusual step of intentionally keeping one of his targets alive. But what has he done with her? Spector played some kind of audio or video footage that featured her saying: feel sorry for you but ray ban 3217 does that mean she is still alive or is it a memento from his latest kill? 2. Do we really need more adventures in babysitting? Don forget your toothbrush, Katie. Oh, and a plausible plot line (Picture: BBC) I am prepared to be proved wrong in later episodes if it resolved in a thrilling way, but one aspect of The Fall I am getting a bit weary of is the babysitter angle. It a pity ray ban glasses price because said childminder Katie Benedetto is played brilliantly by Aisling Franciosi, all pent up teen angst and sour then sultry looks in Spector direction. He is hot, to be fair. But I am finding the character actions less and less believable as the story develops. In the first episode of the new series, she figured out Spector was the killer. In the second, she jumped right into his hotel bed. And now, in episode 3, she has turned into a mini Spector at his bidding, lying to police to provide him an alibi, running around in the middle of the night like a jumped up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, before settling down to some Skype sex with the guy she knew was a murderer two episodes ago. Most babysitters raid the fridge, take their ten quid and go home. Not our Katie. 3. Shouldn the police just, uh, you know, arrest Spector? Scully couldn make head nor tail of Mulder notes What? Oh. Right. Sorry, wrong show (Picture: BBC) For any police drama to work on TV, the cops have to be at least a little inept we couldn have the bad guy getting caught in the first episode, now could we? However, now that the PSNI in Belfast have enough on Spector to take him in, couldn they just do that? Katie gave him an alibi but it flimsy at best, while they have his prints on a murder weapon and can place him in a bar with one of the victims. In fact, Gibson could have caught him in this episode when he drove his car right up to a crime scene. Maybe she didn want to ruin her heels. The way things are going in The ray ban 3404 Fall, Peter Paul Spector (which we learned is his real name) ray ban rb3386 will be hauled downtown to sweat it under the lights at some point soon, but not yet. 4. Should Gibson have a security detail? Smith and Gibson get personal over some margaritas (Picture: BBC) Given that she is a high profile police officer who has been transferred from London to Belfast to work on a high profile case (Operation Musicman still sounds silly though) and is being put up in a swish hotel, information that has been in the newspapers, it would have been sensible to give Gibson a couple of bodyguards.
But no, Spector is able to sneak right into her hotel room and have a good rifle through her diary, while she downstairs in the bar kissing female colleague, pathologist Reed Smith (Archie Panjabi). Unfortunately, that as fun as the evening gets for Gibson. After Smith decides against going upstairs to her room with her, she is confronted up there by Assistant Chief Constable Jim Burns (John Lynch), who drunkenly propositions her, before Gibson meets his demand with a swift elbow to the nose.
